.God: Expelled From America
In the coming weeks my new book will be out on the shelves, it is entitled, “God: Expelled From America.” It is a national issue of great importance, as this blessed country, explicitly based on the Judeo/Christian Bible, is now totally prohibiting God in the public square.
Even the American system of justice, which is firmly rooted in the Judeo/Christian tradition, has developed a bias against public worship and the public acknowledgement of God. We have actually reached a time in history when judges are denying Christians and Jews alike the right to express their beliefs publicly. Case in point: In California on May 5, 2010, patriotic students at Live Oak High School were caught wearing pro-God/U.S.A. t-shirts depicting the American flag (God Bless America). Outraged school officials gave the students an option to take the t-shirts off, turn them inside out, or leave the school grounds. The students refused and they left the school grounds. However, those students who were wearing the Mexican flag had no problem, and continued wearing their t-shirts throughout the day. In addition, in California it is illegal to place crosses, on public displays during the Christmas and Easter season. In Kansas, city hall monuments, which feature religious symbols, have all been torn down. In Florida, students in the Santa Rosa school district have been prohibited from discussing anything devotional or inspirational in nature with their classmates or teachers. In Alabama, a federal court order now prohibits students from praying, or distributing religious materials on school grounds. On June 18, in Dearborn, Michigan four students were arrested for exercising their Constitutional rights of free speech and the free exercise of religion by distributing Christian materials at a festival mostly attended by the Muslim population. In Ohio, an appellate court has overturned the sentence of a man convicted of raping an eight year old girl ten times because the judge who pronounced the sentence quoted from Mathew chapter 18: “But those shall offend one of these little one which believe in me, it were better for him that a millstone were hanged about his neck, and that he were drowned in the depth of the sea”. Finally, here in West Palm Beach, Florida, on the Fourth of July weekend, an elderly churchwoman was arrested for talking about Jesus to teenagers at the food court of a local mall.
In 1962, prayer was banned from the public schools, even a quiet time of reflection and discussions about God were abruptly eliminated. A small group of non Christian Americans became of the belief that the public schools should not impose faith or spirituality on children. Unfortunately, the aftermath has been a total prohibition of publicly acknowledging God and prayer throughout our country.
The consequences of such actions has brought about an increase of crime, alcohol and drug abuse, teen pregnancies, internet pornography, and infidelity among married couples. These events have lead to the destruction of the family unit in many American homes today. Single parents lacking time are allowing others to form the moral values of their children. Children spend most of their day in an atheist school environment and return home to be without adult supervision. Mom or dad may fail to block pornography on the computer or TV, and are unaware of the shows that the children are viewing on regular TV channels. The American Psychological Association, (Johnston 1994), says that the average child watches over 8,000 televised murders and 100,000 acts of violence before finishing elementary school. Can you imagine what the number will be like when they graduate from high school?
Under the auspices of “being politically correct and separation of church and state,” the non-Christian elite, continues to move forward with their agenda. The Bible has been replaced with evolution, Christianity with humanism, the Ten Commandments with secularism, and Jesus with Santa Claus, and the Easter bunny. We do not want to do what is right in the eyes of God anymore. What matters is popular opinion and being politically correct. We want to replace God, avoid God, and belittle God. The irony is America prides itself with being blessed by God (God Bless America). Yet publicly, Americans have forgotten and denied God. Especially in the media which exerts its powerful influence on the youth of our society.
The Pharisees demanded of Jesus, “Is it lawful to give tribute unto Caesar, or not?” Jesus asked the Pharisees to produce a coin and tell Him whose image was inscribed on its face. When they replied, “Caesar’s,” Jesus gave His answer. “Render unto Caesar the things that are of Caesar’s and unto God the things that are of God’s.” Friends, today we render an enormous amount to Caesar, but never should we surrender our freedom of conscience. The government cannot mandate our thoughts or beliefs. In quoting Jefferson, “Almighty God has created the mind to be free.”
What did God ever do to America to make Americans deny, avoid, and some even hate Him? Who needs God? We do not need God. We can buy anything we want, when we want it. Yet, the most powerful nation on the face of the earth is now crumbling because it has turned its back on God. It is not going to get any better America, moral problems continue to build, and the economic conditions continue to decline. How long will America continue to mistreat God?
Tomorrow’s religious freedom will depend on the actions that we take today to protect it. Use your vote wisely and pray daily. Remember what is written in 2 Chronicles 7:14
if my people, who are called by my name, will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then will I hear from heaven and will forgive their sin and will heal their land.
May God have mercy on us for our silence to acknowledge His name.
